How do you get to the Sift?

Official position (Xbox Wire, September 26, 2026): Mojang "is not yet detailing how players will access the Sift" in Minecraft. Anything you read that claims otherwise is a guess.

In Minecraft Dungeons II

1. Rifts. Mojang: "there are lots of rifts that appear throughout the world. If you do stumble across and then into one, it will transport you to the Sift." The store page: "Mysterious rifts are opening across the Overworld... but where do they lead? To the Sift."
2. The Deep Dark portal. The community wiki documents the story route: the portal frame at the centre of an ancient city, opened with a note-block machine. The Grand Illusioner's staff can also tear open rifts.

Clues for Minecraft, honestly rated

• The ancient-city portal frame already exists in Minecraft (since 1.19, 2022) and has never done anything. Dungeons II made it a Sift portal. That is suggestive, and it is the most common fan theory. Status: unconfirmed.
• Sculk lore. Dungeons II says the Sift is sculk's homeland. If Minecraft adopts the same lore, the Deep Dark is the natural doorway. Status: unconfirmed.
• Developer philosophy. Mojang has said a dimension needs a reason to exist, which hints the entrance will be tied to a progression goal rather than a cheap recipe. Status: our reading.
